This landscape design project complements a striking modern farmhouse property in Christiana, Pennsylvania. The client’s primary goal was to create a refined garden that would reduce the need for traditional mulched planting beds while still providing strong seasonal color and visual structure throughout the property.
To accomplish this, the design introduces sweeping drifts of perennial plantings framed with cobblestone edging. These defined planting bands allow the garden to read as a series of structured yet naturalistic spaces while significantly minimizing maintenance. The cobblestone edges provide a timeless material contrast against the soft movement of the perennials, creating a balance between architectural structure and informal planting.
Along the driveway perimeter, cobblestones paired with boxwood establish a clean and formal framework that reinforces the modern farmhouse architecture while providing year-round evergreen structure.
The rear landscape transitions into a recreational garden space centered around a putting green located between the pool and a detached modern gym. Surrounding the putting green, low-maintenance groundcovers and perennial plantings provide vibrant seasonal color while maintaining a clean and functional outdoor environment.
